Weekly Wrap-up: Twitter Adds Photo Tagging, Facebook Acquires Oculus

The last week of March is coming to an end and as usual, it is never a dull week on the Web. Instagram announced it’s surpassing the 200 million mark while Twitter introduced some new photo features in its mobile app.

Twitter rolls out photo tagging

This week, Twitter announced two new mobile features that it says make photos on Twitter more social (which is true, or in other words, more like Facebook). Soon, you will be able to tag the people in your photo and add up to four photos in your tweets. Cool, huh?

Instagram is growing

This photo-sharing social network is growing in leaps and bounds. According to this blog, on top of surpassing the 200 million user mark, 50 million Instagrammers have joined in the last six months. That is pretty believable going by the number of my Facebook friends that join Instagram every day of late. Not to mention the trend on Twitter where half of #KOT have their usernames as the ‘IG’ usernames. The photos shared on Instagram have exceeded 20 billion and counting.

5 Questions about the Facebook Pages Update

Facebook figured that lots of us were not sure what the update to pages meant, so they cleared the air for us. In a nutshell:

The left-side column will show what the page is all about.

Apps will appear in two locations: in the left-side column, or in the top navigation menu.

The Activity tab at the top of the Page, or in the This Week box on the right will have the messages

Just as it is now, admins will receive a notification whenever their page is added to your page watch list. It still won’t disclose the name of the page that added them.

The update is still rolling out.

Other news

Pinterest has been translated into Hungarian, Romanian, Thai, Tagalog (the language of the Phillippines), Malay and Vietnamese between last Friday and today.

Facebook acquired Oculus VR, a virtual reality technology that some of us on this side of the globe had never heard of before this week. According to Mark Zuckerberg, they plan to make Oculus a platform for many other experiences beyond games.
