Weekly Wrap-up: Twitter Turns 8, WhatsApp Privacy

So what’s been cooking? For one, Twitter turns 8 this week. Happy birthday Twitter!

Twitter 8th Birthday

Twitter was born in 2006 and continues to improve every single day for the last 8 years. As it marks its 8th birthday, it’s giving you the opportunity to celebrate your #FirstTweet with this tool that lets you find your very first Tweet and anyone else simply by typing in the @username.

WhatsApp assures privacy

The hullaballoo about Facebook buying WhatsApp died down. Or did it? This week, WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum assured us that it will continue to respect our privacy. Just to quote him,

Respect for your privacy is coded into our DNA, and we built WhatsApp around the goal of knowing as little about you as possible: You don’t have to give us your name and we don’t ask for your email address. We don’t know your birthday. We don’t know your home address. We don’t know where you work. We don’t know your likes, what you search for on the internet or collect your GPS location. None of that data has ever been collected and stored by WhatsApp, and we really have no plans to change that.

Facebook new layouts

The new look Facebook News Feed is already rolled out but some of us are still getting notifications that it will change. Page admins on the other hand can join a waitlist for the new page’s look.

Mention:

The guys over at Pinterest have been translating it into 26 new languages. Pinterest has been translated to Hindi and Greek this week.
